DEVICES

EXAMPLE FABRICATION CONCEPTS

There are quite literally thousands of different styles of improvised devices that can be constructed to any manner of specification, all of which is driven primarily by the desires of the client. At Red Team we analyse the clients training objectives and ensure we design a device (physically and functionally) that will fit the profile. Although it is impossible to describe and picture every single type of device we are able to manufacture, we have included a select range of our products below which covers most of the breadth of our capability. For more information please contact us.

Type E.   Basic Improvised Explosive Devices

- Typically range in size from 100g up to 20kg (larger for vehicle borne devices)

- May be hidden in an innocuous container (e.g. backpack, briefcase, fire extinguisher, etc)

- Contains explosive fill (no CBR or other materials)

- Can include numerous arming or functioning switches (light sensitive, infrared, pressure release, tilt, mechanical switches, radio freq, timer, anti-tamper, conditions based, etc)

- Can include penalties (such as screens and sensors)

- Normally includes a safe-to-arm switch

Type H.   Hostage Devices

- Designed to involve a victim (i.e. the victim is actively preventing the closing of a switch and cannot be easily separated from the device)

- Typically small devices (500g to 5kg main charge)

- Normally contains explosive fill (no CBR materials)

- Normally has simple arming switch/s, and can include more than one functioning switches (usually directly related to an action by the hostage)

- Can include penalties but not typical (such as screens and switches)

- Can include timer countdown

Type C.   Chemical Threat Devices

- Can be designed as a mechanical release device (e.g. it releases/sprays a chemical as a vapour) or an explosive dispersion device (e.g. a small amount of explosive energetically releases a chemical)

- Typically small to medium sized devices (100mls to 100L of chemical)

- Can include numerous arming or functioning switches (light sensitive, infrared, pressure release, tilt, mechanical NC components, etc)

- Can include penalties (such as screens and switches)

- Can include timer countdown

- Normally includes safe-to-arm switch

Type B.   Biological Threat Devices

- Usually designed as an explosive dispersion device (e.g. a small amount of explosive energetically releases a powder)

- Typically small sized devices (50g to 1kg of agent)

- Can include numerous arming or functioning switches (light sensitive, infrared, pressure release, tilt, mechanical NC components, etc)

- Can include timer countdown

- Normally includes safe-to-arm switch

Type R.   Radiological Threat Devices

- Usually designed as an explosive dispersion device (e.g. a small amount of explosive energetically releases radioactive material/powder/dust), or straight exposure device

- Typically small sized devices (20g to 1kg)

- Can include numerous arming or functioning switches (light sensitive, infrared, pressure release, tilt, mechanical NC components, etc)

- Can include timer countdown

- Normally includes safe-to-arm switch

Type W.   Improvised Weapons

- Modelled and functionally constructed from factory equivalent parent design

- Typically includes explosively formed projectiles, improvised claymores, improvised rocket launching systems, and improvised mortars

- Usually incorporates some form of victim trigger (e.g. an infrared switch) or command initiation (e.g. an RF signal)

- Normally includes safe-to-arm switch

Type T.   Training Systems

We manufacture custom designed boxes and training systems for operators to maintain skills in the area of detonator and electronics diagnostics.
